Buckham Farms is family-owned and operated with several farmsteads
across Kalamazoo County in Oshtemo and Schoolcraft. We currently farm 1,100
acres, growing corn, seed corn, soybeans, wheat, alfalfa and pasture,
on which we graze breeding sheep and cattle.
Our commercial sheep and calves are born on pasture and finished
on grain and hay. Most of our feeds come straight from our own fields,
and the animal bedding and manure are spread on the fields to fertilize
and improve soil quality, keeping our farm cyclic and local. We try to use
sustainable conservation practices like crop rotation and no-till as
well to keep our soil and crops healthy.
Our purebred flocks consist of about 45
Shropshires and 60 Suffolks. We also have 75 Wether-type sheep and
around 800 commercial ewes. Each spring, we also have an annual club lamb sale.
